Crushed Maize - Feed Ingredient

Crushed maize refers to whole corn kernels that have been coarsely broken into smaller pieces. This mechanical processing increases surface area, improving digestibility compared to whole maize.

In equine diets, crushed maize is used as a high-energy grain ingredient due to its high starch content. It is commonly included in textured feeds or grain mixes to increase caloric density.

Because of its starch concentration, crushed maize should be fed in moderation, especially in horses prone to metabolic conditions such as laminitis or insulin dysregulation.
