Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) - Feed Ingredient
Cyanocobalamin is a synthetic form of vitamin B12 commonly used in supplements and animal feeds due to its heat stability. Vitamin B12 plays a critical role in red blood cell production, neurological function, and energy metabolism. It is essential for DNA synthesis, the formation of myelin (nerve insulation), and the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
Horses naturally obtain vitamin B12 through microbial synthesis in the hindgut, provided they consume sufficient cobalt. While deficiencies are uncommon, they may occur in horses with compromised gut health, inadequate cobalt intake, or those under high physical stress. Symptoms of deficiency include anemia, reduced appetite, lethargy, weight loss, and neurological dysfunction
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) as an ingredient.
