Extruded Corn - Feed Ingredient
Extruded corn is corn grain that has been processed using high heat, moisture, and pressure, then forced through a die to form expanded, cooked shapes. This process gelatinizes the starch, significantly enhancing its digestibility and energy availability for horses.
In equine feeds, extruded corn is used as a high-energy ingredient with improved palatability and reduced risk of undigested starch reaching the hindgut. It is often included in pelleted or extruded complete feeds.
Because of its high starch content, extruded corn should be fed in moderation and balanced with adequate fiber, especially in horses with metabolic sensitivities or those at risk for laminitis.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Extruded Corn as an ingredient.
