Ferrous Carbonate - Feed Ingredient

Ferrous carbonate (FeCO₃) is an inorganic iron compound used as a dietary iron supplement in animal feed. It provides a bioavailable source of iron, an essential trace mineral required for oxygen transport, red blood cell production, and various metabolic processes.

Since iron is abundant in forages and water sources, true iron deficiencies in adult horses are very rare. While iron is an essential nutrient, excessive supplementation can lead to mineral imbalances and oxidative stress. Therefore, iron supplementation is rarely needed in equine diets and should only be considered when a deficiency is confirmed through veterinary evaluation.

The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Ferrous Carbonate as an ingredient.
