Iceland Moss (Cetraria islandica) - Feed Ingredient

Iceland moss is a lichen native to arctic and alpine regions, traditionally used in herbal medicine. It consists of a symbiotic association between a fungus and an alga and is rich in polysaccharides, particularly lichenin and isolichenin, as well as bitter compounds and trace minerals.

In equine nutrition, Iceland moss may be included in herbal feed blends or supplements for its demulcent and mild antimicrobial properties, particularly in formulations aimed at supporting respiratory or digestive health. Its mucilage content can help soothe mucous membranes.

The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Iceland Moss (Cetraria islandica) as an ingredient.
