Lysophospholipids - Feed Ingredient

Lysophospholipids are modified phospholipids that have had one fatty acid chain removed, typically through enzymatic hydrolysis. This structural change increases their solubility and bioactivity compared to standard phospholipids. Common types include lysophosphatidylcholine and lysophosphatidylethanolamine.

In animal nutrition, including equine applications, lysophospholipids are primarily used as feed additives to enhance nutrient absorption and emulsification of dietary fats. They can improve the efficiency of digestion, particularly in high-fat diets, by stabilizing micelle formation and supporting lipid metabolism in the gastrointestinal tract.
