Magnesium Mica - Feed Ingredient
Magnesium mica, also known as biotite mica or magnesium aluminosilicate, is a naturally occurring silicate mineral composed primarily of magnesium, aluminum, silicon, and oxygen. It is part of a group of minerals called phyllosilicates and has a layered structure that makes it look and feel flaky.
In animal nutrition, magnesium mica is primarily used as a functional feed additive rather than for its nutritive value. Its inclusion in feed formulations is typically aimed at serving as a flow agent, pellet binder, or anti-caking agent, helping to improve the physical characteristics of feed during processing and handling.
Though magnesium mica contains magnesium and other trace minerals, it is not considered a significant bioavailable source of these nutrients for horses.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Magnesium Mica as an ingredient.
