Manganous Oxide - Feed Ingredient
Manganous oxide (MnO) is an inorganic compound incorporated into horse feeds as a source of manganese, an essential trace mineral. In its manganous (Mn²⁺) state, it remains chemically stable and cost‑effective, though its bioavailability is typically lower than that of organic chelates such as manganese proteinate.
For horses, manganese supports bone and cartilage formation, joint health, and the activity of manganese‑dependent enzymes involved in energy metabolism and antioxidant defense. Although manganese deficiency is uncommon in equines, maintaining adequate dietary manganese helps support musculoskeletal health, development, and metabolic function.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Manganous Oxide as an ingredient.
