Mannitol - Feed Ingredient
Mannitol is a type of sugar alcohol (polyol) naturally found in various fruits and vegetables and also produced through the hydrogenation of fructose. It is a white, crystalline powder with a sweet taste and is less readily absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract than glucose or sucrose.
In animal nutrition, including equine applications, mannitol is occasionally used as a low-calorie sweetener, bulking agent, or excipient in feed additives and supplements. Its presence may improve palatability or aid in the uniform distribution of active compounds in powdered formulations.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Mannitol as an ingredient.
