Menaquinone - Feed Ingredient
Menaquinone, commonly known as vitamin K₂, is a fat-soluble vitamin involved in blood clotting and bone metabolism. It is produced by microbial fermentation and occurs in several subtypes, which vary based on the length of their isoprenoid side chains.
In equine nutrition, menaquinone is not typically added to feed formulations because horses synthesize it in the hindgut through microbial activity. Under normal dietary conditions with adequate forage and healthy gut function, horses produce sufficient vitamin K₂ endogenously.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Menaquinone as an ingredient.
