Micronized Peas - Feed Ingredient
Micronized peas are whole peas that have undergone a high-temperature, short-time infrared heat process known as micronization. This thermal treatment alters the structure of starches and proteins in the peas, improving their digestibility and palatability while reducing anti-nutritional factors such as trypsin inhibitors and lectins.
In equine nutrition, micronized peas are used as a plant-based source of protein and energy. They contain moderate levels of highly digestible protein and are a good source of lysine, making them a useful ingredient in diets that require plant protein diversification. However, they may be low in methionine. The micronization process enhances nutrient availability and makes peas more suitable for equine digestive systems compared to raw or minimally processed pulses.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Micronized Peas as an ingredient.
