Micronized Soybeans - Feed Ingredient
Micronized soybeans are whole soybeans that have undergone a high-temperature, short-time (HTST) infrared treatment process known as micronization. This thermal process alters the physical structure of the seed by rapidly heating it with infrared radiation, thereby improving its digestibility, reducing anti-nutritional factors such as trypsin inhibitors, and enhancing shelf life without the use of chemicals.
In equine nutrition, micronized soybeans are included as a source of high-quality plant protein, fat, and digestible energy. Whole soybeans are rich in lysine and other essential amino acids, as well as unsaturated fats, making them useful in diets formulated for growth, lactation, or increased energy demands. Micronization improves nutrient availability while maintaining much of the bean’s natural oil content, which contributes to its caloric density.
Compared to soybean meal, micronized soybeans contain more fat and fiber and are often used in extruded or pelleted feeds where a high-energy, palatable ingredient is desired. The thermal treatment makes them suitable for equine use by mitigating the effects of naturally occurring anti-nutrients present in raw soybeans.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Micronized Soybeans as an ingredient.
