Nannochloropsis - Feed Ingredient
Nannochloropsis is a genus of unicellular, non‑motile marine microalgae in the class Eustigmatophyceae. Commercially cultivated strains are dried or pressed for their lipid‑rich biomass, characterized by a high proportion of long‑chain omega‑3 fatty acids, especially eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), along with moderate protein, carotenoids (such as astaxanthin), and antioxidant polyphenols.
In equine nutrition, Nannochloropsis meal or extracted oil is used as a plant‑based source of EPA to support immune and joint health, maintain coat condition, and supply essential fatty acids, providing an environmentally sustainable alternative to marine fish oils.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Nannochloropsis as an ingredient.
