Nicotinic Acid - Feed Ingredient

Nicotinic acid, also known as niacin, is a water‑soluble form of vitamin B3. It is used in feed formulations to supply an easily absorbed source of vitamin B3.

In equine nutrition, nicotinic acid is used to support metabolic functions, particularly oxidative energy production and enzyme activity. It serves as a precursor for NAD and NADP, coenzymes essential for redox reactions involved in carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism.

Horses can synthesize niacin from the amino acid tryptophan, so deficiencies are uncommon when feeding a balanced diet. However, supplementation may be provided to performance, breeding, or stressed horses to ensure consistent intake. Nicotinic acid is considered safe and well tolerated at recommended levels.

The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Nicotinic Acid as an ingredient.
