Octacosanol - Feed Ingredient
Octacosanol is a long-chain aliphatic alcohol (C28H58O) found in the waxy coatings of plants, particularly in wheat germ oil, sugarcane, spinach, and other plant-derived waxes. It is often extracted and concentrated for use in dietary supplements.
In equine products, octacosanol may be included for its potential effects on metabolism and cellular energy processes. While some claims exist regarding its use in athletic animals, research in horses is limited.
