Organic Copper - Feed Ingredient

Organic copper refers to copper bound to organic molecules, such as amino acids, proteinates, or polysaccharides, to enhance bioavailability and absorption in equine nutrition. Common forms of organic copper used in feed formulations include copper amino acid chelate, copper proteinate, and copper polysaccharide complex. These forms are more efficiently utilized by the horse compared to inorganic sources such as copper sulfate or copper oxide, as they are less likely to interact with dietary antagonists like iron, zinc, or sulfur.

Copper is an essential trace mineral involved in red blood cell formation, connective tissue synthesis, immune function, and coat pigmentation. It plays a crucial role in collagen and elastin production, which are necessary for joint health, bone strength, and blood vessel integrity.
