Peanut Meal - Feed Ingredient
Peanut meal is the protein-rich by-product remaining after oil has been extracted from peanut kernels (Arachis hypogaea), typically through mechanical pressing or solvent extraction. The resulting meal is dried and ground into a coarse or fine powder, depending on its intended use.
In equine nutrition, peanut meal may be used as a plant-based protein supplement. It is rich in protein and contains a moderate amount of fiber and residual fat. However, its amino acid profile is relatively low in lysine compared to other protein sources like soybean meal, which may limit its use in formulations requiring balanced essential amino acids.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Peanut Meal as an ingredient.
Feeds, Supplements & Products
Peanut Meal – Mechanical Extraction
Peanut meal is a by-product of peanut oil production, either through mechanical extraction. Peanut meal is high in protein, but may be contaminated with aflatoxin.
Peanut Meal – Solvent Extracted 48% CP
Peanut meal is a by-product of peanut oil, typically produced by solvent extraction. Peanut meal is high in protein but relatively low in limiting amino acids such as lysine and methionine.
