Peanuts - Feed Ingredient
Peanuts, or groundnuts (Arachis hypogaea), are legumes primarily cultivated for human consumption and oil production. The seeds are rich in protein and oil, but whole peanuts are not typically used in equine feed due. Instead, their by products, such a peanut hulls, are introduced as sources of roughage.

Bartlett Complete Horse Pellets with Roughage is a 12% protein and 2.5% fat feed formulated for pleasure horses. Calories are provided from wheat middlings, alfalfa meal, soybean hulls, and ground corn.
Hay Stretcher (Producer’s Pride)
Producer’s Pride Hay Stretcher is an alfalfa-based pelleted feed intended for horses, cattle, sheep and goats. It provides 12% protein and includes peanut hulls, wheat middlings, soybean hulls and molasses.
Horse Munch (Bartlett Milling) [Discontinued]
Bartlett Horse Munch is a pelleted feed containing added molasses. It is formulated for horses at maintenance or easy keepers with 15% fibre, 14% protein, and 3.5% fat.
Peanut Hulls
Peanut hulls are a by-product of peanut processing. Peanut hulls are high in lignin, an indigestible fibre. Aflatoxin contamination may be a concern with peanut hulls.
Peanut Meal – Mechanical Extraction
Peanut meal is a by-product of peanut oil production, either through mechanical extraction. Peanut meal is high in protein, but may be contaminated with aflatoxin.
Peanut Meal – Solvent Extracted 48% CP
Peanut meal is a by-product of peanut oil, typically produced by solvent extraction. Peanut meal is high in protein but relatively low in limiting amino acids such as lysine and methionine.
Peanut Skins
Peanut skins are a by-product of peanut processing. Peanut skins are a high-protein, high-fat feed option for livestock.
