Pearled Barley - Feed Ingredient
Barley is a cereal grain used in horse feeds for its starch-based energy and moderate protein content. It is denser and lower in fiber than oats, and typically processed to enhance digestibility.
Pearled barley has had its outer hull and part of the bran layer removed through abrasion. This polishing process results in a smooth, white kernel with reduced fiber and increased starch availability. While commonly used in human food, pearled barley may also appear in specialty equine feeds. Due to its high starch content and reduced fiber, it should be fed in moderation for horses sensitive to non-structural carbohydrates.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Pearled Barley as an ingredient.
