Phylloquinone - Feed Ingredient
Phylloquinone, also known as vitamin K₁, is a fat-soluble vitamin primarily involved in blood clotting through its role in synthesizing clotting factors in the liver. It is the natural form of vitamin K found in green leafy plants and is the primary dietary source of vitamin K for herbivores.
In equine nutrition, phylloquinone is typically obtained through forage consumption, particularly fresh pasture and hay. Horses on diets with adequate forage generally meet their vitamin K needs without supplementation. However, phylloquinone may be added to feed or supplements in situations where forage intake is limited or during intensive care.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Phylloquinone as an ingredient.
