Rice Hulls - Feed Ingredient

Rice hulls are the outer protective coverings of rice grains (Oryza sativa), removed during the milling process. They are composed primarily of lignocellulose, making them highly fibrous and largely indigestible for many animals. As a byproduct of rice production, rice hulls are commonly used as low-calorie pelleting agents due to their minimal nutritional value and high fiber content.

In equine nutrition, rice hulls are primarily used as a low-calorie pelleting aid or excipient ingredient in supplements. Since they contribute little to a horse’s available energy or nutrient intake and are naturally low in starches and sugars, they can serve as a carrier for essential nutrients without adding unwanted calories or non-structural carbohydrates (NSC).

The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Rice Hulls as an ingredient.
