Rolled Barley - Feed Ingredient

Barley is a cereal grain used in equine diets for its energy content from starch and moderate levels of protein. Its dense structure and low fiber make processing important for improving digestibility.

Rolled barley is produced by passing whole barley kernels through rollers to flatten them. This mechanical processing breaks the outer hull and exposes the inner starch, making the grain easier to digest. While more digestible than whole barley, it is less processed than steam-flaked or extruded forms. Rolled barley is commonly included in mixed feeds and should be fed with caution in horses sensitive to starch.
