Sodium Metabisulfite - Feed Ingredient
Sodium metabisulfite is a white, crystalline powder with the chemical formula Na₂S₂O₅. It is commonly used as a preservative, antioxidant, and antimicrobial agent in various food and feed applications.
In equine feed processing, sodium metabisulfite is occasionally employed to inhibit mold growth, prevent spoilage, or stabilize moisture-sensitive ingredients. It may also be used during the processing of high-moisture feeds, such as wet corn gluten or beet pulp, to extend shelf life and reduce microbial contamination.
