Sodium Sulfite - Feed Ingredient
Sodium Sulfite is an inorganic salt with the chemical formula Na₂SO₃. It is primarily used in food and feed applications as a preservative and antioxidant. In equine feed manufacturing, it may be included in small amounts to prevent oxidative spoilage, inhibit microbial growth, or preserve color and stability in certain ingredients.
As a feed additive, sodium sulfite functions as a processing aid rather than a nutritional ingredient. It helps maintain product quality during storage and handling, particularly in moist or perishable feed components. Its antioxidant properties can also help protect sensitive nutrients like fats and vitamins from degradation.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Sodium Sulfite as an ingredient.
