Soluble Humates - Feed Ingredient
Soluble humates are the water-soluble salts of humic substances, typically derived from leonardite, a soft brown coal-like material rich in organic matter. These substances include humic acid, fulvic acid, and their salts, which are produced through alkaline extraction and drying processes.
In equine and livestock nutrition, soluble humates are used as feed additives for their potential effects on nutrient absorption and gut health. They may bind toxins in the gastrointestinal tract and influence microbial populations, although specific effects can vary depending on the humate source and composition.
Because humates act through non-specific binding, they may also bind to beneficial nutrients or orally administered medications, potentially reducing their availability. This interaction should be considered when humates are included in diets containing targeted nutrient supplementation or veterinary treatments.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Soluble Humates as an ingredient.
