Spirulina - Feed Ingredient
Spirulina is a biomass of blue-green microalgae. It is processed into powder or pellet form for use in animal feed and supplements. It is recognized for its high protein content (typically 55–70% by dry weight) and for supplying a broad spectrum of micronutrients, including B-vitamins and beta-carotene.
In equine nutrition, spirulina is used as a supplemental ingredient in specialty feeds and formulations. It contains phycocyanin, a blue pigment with documented antioxidant activity, and has been associated with natural antihistamine-like properties.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Spirulina as an ingredient.
