Tapioca - Feed Ingredient
Tapioca is a starch extracted from the roots of the cassava plant (Manihot esculenta). It is commonly processed into flour, flakes, or pearls and used as a carbohydrate source in various food and feed products.
In equine nutrition, tapioca may be included as a highly digestible energy source, particularly in pelleted feeds or specialty diets. It is low in protein and fiber but rich in starch, providing quick-release energy.
While generally safe for horses, its high starch content may require caution in horses prone to insulin resistance, laminitis, or other metabolic disorders.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Tapioca as an ingredient.
