Vegetable Oil - Feed Ingredient

Vegetable oil is a fat source derived from plant seeds such as soybeans, canola, sunflowers, or corn. It is commonly used in animal feed as an energy-dense ingredient, providing about 2.5 times more calories per gram than carbohydrates.

In equine nutrition, vegetable oil is added to feed to boost calorie intake, improve coat condition, and provide essential fatty acids. It is particularly beneficial for performance horses, senior horses, or those needing weight gain without increasing starch intake.

Many vegetable oils, especially soybean, corn, and sunflower oil, are high in omega-6 fatty acids. While omega-6s are essential, excessive amounts can lead to an imbalance in omega rations.
