Use of phenytoin to treat digitalis-induced cardiac arrhythmias in a miniature Shetland pony. Type-II renal tubular acidosis and ventricular tachycardia in a horse. A 14-year-old Arabian mare was admitted for lethargy, anorexia, and low fecal output. Electrolyte disturbances in foals with severe rhabdomyolysis. Marked electrolyte abnormalities characterized by profound hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, hypocalcemia, and hyperphosphatemia were noted in 4 neonatal foals with acute rhabdomyolysis and pigmenturia. In 2 foals, rhabdomyolysis developed 4-6 days after admission for dysmaturity, and in 2 foals, rhabdomyolysis was evident on presentation. Intracardiac overdrive pacing as a treatment of atrial flutter in a horse. A five-year-old warmblood mare with atrial fibrillation was treated with quinidine sulphate. The atrial rhythm changed to atrial flutter and, because there were toxic effects, the treatment was discontinued. Seven months after the occurrence of the atrial flutter, treatment with a rapid atrial pacing technique restored a normal sinus rhythm. Atrial fibrillation associated with central nervous symptoms and colic in a horse: a case of equine cardiomyopathy. A 18-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare was referred for colic. Ventricular tachycardia associated with exhaustive exercise in a horse. Ventricular tachycardia was diagnosed in a 12-year-old unconditioned Appaloosa gelding after a 3-day trail ride. [Echocardiography and therapy of atrial fibrillation in horses]. Echocardiographic evaluation of 45 horses (43 warm-blooded horses, one Thoroughbred and one Standardbred) with atrial fibrillation was performed, using M-mode, B-mode and pulsed-wave Doppler echocardiography. [Pathology of cardiac ventricular aneurysms in the horse]. Myocarditis following envenoming with Vipera palaestinae in two horses. Cardiac disease developed several days to weeks after resolution of local inflammation caused by envenoming by Vipera palaestinae in two horses. In one horse (case A), referred to the hospital for recurrent abdominal pain 8 days after envenoming, a tachyarrhythmia was detected; ventricular premature depolarizations were diagnosed by ECG.
