Topic:Horse Breeds

Horse breeds represent the diverse genetic and phenotypic variations found within the species Equus ferus caballus. These breeds are categorized based on characteristics such as size, conformation, coat color, and temperament, which have been selectively bred over centuries to fulfill specific roles and functions. Common classifications of horse breeds include light horses, draft horses, and ponies, each serving different purposes ranging from riding and racing to work and companionship. This page aggregates peer-reviewed research studies and scholarly articles that explore the genetics, history, and functional attributes of various horse breeds, as well as their impact on equine management and breeding practices.

Gospodarowicz D.A highly purified preparation of PMSG has been obtained from fresh serum and from a commercial preparation. Carbohydrate and amino acid compositions have been determined. The carbohydrate content of PMSG is 46.7% and the molecule is rich in Sialic Acid (13.5%). The apparent molecular weight of PMSG has been determined by SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. A molecular weight of 53,000 has been found for the unreduced and unalkylated molecule. After reduction and alkylation, the molecular weight fell to 23,000. From these values it has been concluded that PMSG is an oligomeric molecule comp...

Milne FJ.FOR MANY YEARS, concern has been expressed at the wastage of young Thoroughbreds at the racetrack. This concern even manifested itself in the publication of a book (1) which referred to the prevailing practice of prematurely start-ing the racing career of the Thoroughbred long before it had attained sufficient maturity to engage in stiff, damaging competition. This is not a fault of the Thoroughbred industry alone, because in certain parts of the U.S.A., Quarter Horses less than two years of age are already racing. We could swing to the opposite extreme, of course, to the pleasure horse world ...
