Ammonium Chloride - Feed Ingredient
Ammonium chloride is an inorganic salt composed of ammonia and hydrochloric acid. It appears as a white, crystalline powder and is highly soluble in water. In animal nutrition, it is primarily used as a urinary acidifier to help prevent urinary calculi, particularly in species like cattle, goats, and poultry.
Its use in equine feed is uncommon but may occur in specific cases where urine acidification is desired. Ammonium chloride can influence systemic acid-base balance and, if used inappropriately, may contribute to metabolic acidosis. Therefore, its inclusion in equine diets should be carefully controlled and typically reserved for veterinary-directed applications.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Ammonium Chloride as an ingredient.
