Artichoke - Feed Ingredient
Artichoke refers to the edible flower bud of Cynara scolymus, a perennial thistle-like plant native to the Mediterranean region. In feed and supplement applications, the parts typically used are the leaves and, less commonly, extracts derived from the whole plant. Artichoke contains bioactive compounds such as cynarin, flavonoids, and inulin, a type of prebiotic fiber.
In equine nutrition, artichoke is used as a botanical additive rather than a core nutrient source. It may be included in dried or powdered form in specialty supplements targeting digestive or liver support. While equine-specific research is limited, artichoke has traditionally been used in herbal applications for its functional phytochemicals and potential digestive benefits.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Artichoke as an ingredient.
