Artificial Sweetener - Feed Ingredient

Artificial sweeteners are synthetic or chemically modified compounds used to provide sweetness without the caloric content of sugar. Common types include saccharin, sucralose, aspartame, and acesulfame potassium. These substances are intensely sweet, often hundreds of times sweeter than sucrose, and are used at very low inclusion rates.

In equine feed and supplements, artificial sweeteners are sometimes added to improve palatability, particularly in powdered or liquid formulations containing bitter or unpalatable ingredients. Their use can help encourage feed intake, especially in picky eaters or horses receiving oral medications or supplements.
