Beetroot - Feed Ingredient

Whole beetroot refers to the entire root of the beet plant (Beta vulgaris), commonly used as a feed ingredient in livestock nutrition. It can be derived from sugar beets or fodder beets, both cultivated for their high carbohydrate content. Whole beetroot is rich in natural sugars and serves as a concentrated source of digestible energy. It is typically fed fresh, sliced, or ensiled to preserve its nutritional value and improve storage stability.

As a feed ingredient, whole beetroot provides an energy-dense option due to its high sugar content and digestible fiber. Unlike beet pulp, which is a byproduct of sugar extraction, whole beetroot retains its full sugar content, making it a more concentrated energy source. While it can be beneficial for livestock requiring additional calories, its higher sugar levels should be considered when formulating diets, particularly for animals prone to metabolic disorders.
