Calcium Chloride - Feed Ingredient
Calcium chloride is an inorganic salt composed of calcium and chlorine, with the chemical formula CaCl₂. It is highly soluble in water and is commonly produced as a byproduct in the Solvay process or by direct neutralization of hydrochloric acid with calcium carbonate or calcium hydroxide. It is available in several forms, including flakes, pellets, and solutions.
In equine nutrition, calcium chloride is used as a supplemental source of calcium, particularly in liquid feed supplements or in products where rapid solubility and absorption are desired. It delivers calcium in a highly bioavailable form and is also used to adjust dietary electrolyte levels due to its chloride content. However, its strong salty and slightly bitter taste can limit palatability if included at high levels.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Calcium Chloride as an ingredient.
