Calcium Silicate - Feed Ingredient
Calcium silicate is an inorganic compound composed of calcium oxide and silicon dioxide, typically appearing as a fine, white powder. It is used in feed manufacturing primarily as a functional additive rather than a nutrient source. In equine feed and supplement production, calcium silicate is most commonly utilized as an anti-caking agent or flow conditioner.
Its primary role is to prevent clumping and improve the flowability of powdered or granular feed ingredients, particularly in premixes or supplements that include moisture-sensitive materials. Calcium silicate may also be used in pelleting processes to aid in the uniform distribution of ingredients.
While it contains calcium, the form and inclusion rate do not contribute significantly to dietary calcium levels and should not be relied upon as a mineral supplement.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Calcium Silicate as an ingredient.
