Calcium Stearate - Feed Ingredient
Calcium stearate is a calcium salt of stearic acid, a long-chain saturated fatty acid. It appears as a white, waxy powder and is commonly used in both the food and feed industries as a flow agent, lubricant, and anti-caking additive. It is produced by reacting stearic acid with calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide.
In equine feed formulations, calcium stearate serves a functional rather than nutritional role. It is included in small quantities to prevent ingredients from clumping, improve the consistency of mixed feeds, and facilitate manufacturing processes such as pelleting. It does not significantly contribute to the horse’s dietary intake of calcium, fat, or energy, and is not used as a primary source of nutrients.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Calcium Stearate as an ingredient.
