Cane Molasses - Feed Ingredient
Cane molasses is a thick, dark syrup that is a byproduct of sugar extraction from sugarcane. It is produced after the sugar crystals have been removed from the juice through boiling and centrifugation. Rich in sugars, mainly sucrose, glucose, and fructose, cane molasses is widely used in animal feed for its energy content and palatability.
In horse feed, cane molasses is often added to improve taste, reduce dust, and encourage feed intake. It provides a quick source of digestible energy, making it beneficial for performance horses or those needing extra calories. However, due to its high sugar content, molasses should be fed in moderation, especially for horses prone to metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance, equine metabolic syndrome, or laminitis.
