Chlorella - Feed Ingredient
Chlorella is a genus of unicellular green algae that is used in equine and animal nutrition as a nutrient-dense feed ingredient. It is cultivated in freshwater under controlled conditions and harvested, dried, and processed—often involving cell wall disruption to improve digestibility. Chlorella is rich in proteins, essential fatty acids, vitamins (such as B-complex and E), minerals, and phytonutrients including chlorophyll and carotenoids.
In equine formulations, chlorella is typically included as a functional ingredient in supplements intended to support general health or provide a plant-based source of micronutrients and antioxidants. Its inclusion may also contribute to pigment content (e.g., lutein and beta-carotene), potentially supporting immune or visual function depending on the formulation.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Chlorella as an ingredient.
