Choline - Feed Ingredient

Choline is a water-soluble compound that is often classified as a B-vitamin. It plays a critical role in lipid metabolism, neurotransmitter function, and cell membrane integrity.

In equine nutrition, choline is included in feed formulations primarily to support fat metabolism and liver function. While horses can produce choline endogenously, dietary sources such as soybean meal, alfalfa, and certain choline supplements (e.g., choline chloride) are sometimes included in rations to ensure adequate intake, particularly for growing, lactating, or performance horses. Choline chloride is the most common supplemental form used in commercial feeds due to its stability and bioavailability.
