Chromium Yeast - Feed Ingredient
Chromium yeast is a form of organic chromium produced by fermenting Saccharomyces cerevisiae (brewer’s yeast) in a chromium-enriched medium. During fermentation, chromium is incorporated into the yeast cells, resulting in a biologically bound form of the mineral that is more bioavailable than inorganic sources such as chromium chloride. The final product is dried and standardized for use in feed formulations.
In equine nutrition, chromium yeast is included as a trace mineral supplement to support normal glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity. Chromium is involved in enhancing the action of insulin, which regulates carbohydrate, protein, and lipid metabolism. This form of chromium is commonly used in performance or metabolic support supplements due to its improved absorption and retention in body tissues compared to inorganic chromium.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Chromium Yeast as an ingredient.
