Citrulline - Feed Ingredient
Citrulline is a non-essential amino acid that plays a role in the urea cycle, where it helps the body eliminate ammonia, a byproduct of protein metabolism. It is also involved in the synthesis of arginine, another amino acid that contributes to nitric oxide production and vasodilation. Citrulline is naturally found in foods such as watermelon and is also synthesized in the body from ornithine.
In equine nutrition, citrulline is sometimes included in specialty supplement formulations aimed at supporting circulation or nitrogen metabolism. It is typically supplied in the form of L-citrulline or citrulline malate (a combination of citrulline and malic acid) and is manufactured through chemical synthesis or microbial fermentation.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Citrulline as an ingredient.
