In equine nutrition, pectin is valued for its functional role in the digestive system rather than for its nutrient content. It can aid in moderating the rate of digestion, binding water, and forming a gel-like substance in the gut, which may help support gastric mucosa and manage conditions related to gastric acidity. Its water-holding capacity and gelling properties can also contribute to feed texture and palatability.
