Cobalt Polysaccharide Complex - Feed Ingredient
Cobalt Polysaccharide Complex is a chelated trace mineral supplement in which cobalt is bound to a polysaccharide ligand, forming a complex that enhances mineral stability and bioavailability. This form of cobalt is used in animal nutrition, including equine diets, to improve cobalt delivery and absorption compared to inorganic sources like cobalt carbonate or sulfate.
In horses, cobalt is not considered an essential trace element in the classical sense, but it plays an indirect nutritional role. It is required by hindgut microbes for the synthesis of vitamin B₁₂ (cobalamin), which is involved in energy metabolism and red blood cell formation. Providing cobalt in a bioavailable form such as a polysaccharide complex can support microbial production of vitamin B₁₂, especially in diets with low natural cobalt content.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Cobalt Polysaccharide Complex as an ingredient.
