Coconut Oil - Feed Ingredient

Coconut oil is a plant-based fat derived from the meat of coconuts (Cocos nucifera). It is composed primarily of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), including lauric acid, caprylic acid, and capric acid. While these may have health benefits, research in horses is limited.

Coconut oil is used in equine diets as an energy-dense fat source, providing calories without starch. It is sometimes included in feed formulations or supplements for horses requiring additional fat in their diet. Unlike other vegetable oils, coconut oil contains minimal polyunsaturated fats, making it more stable and resistant to oxidation.
