Corn Distillers Dried Grains With Solubles - Feed Ingredient

Corn Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS) is a byproduct of corn ethanol production, consisting of the dried remnants of the grain after starch fermentation. It is a concentrated source of protein, fiber, and fat, making it a high-energy feed ingredient in livestock and equine diets. The drying process includes adding back condensed solubles from the fermentation process, resulting in a nutrient-rich feed ingredient.

In equine nutrition, DDGS can serve as an alternative protein and energy source. It provides moderate levels of digestible protein, primarily in the form of bypass protein, and contains residual fat, which contributes to its energy density. The fermentation process removes most of the starch content of the grain, resulting in a lower-starch product than conventional grains, which may be beneficial for horses requiring reduced starch intake.
