Crimped Oats are oats that have been processed to modify their physical structure for improved digestibility. The process involves subjecting whole oat groats to controlled heat and moisture, followed by mechanical crimping. This treatment partially gelatinizes the starch and disrupts the cell walls, creating a product with a distinct texture compared to whole or simply rolled oats.

In equine nutrition, crimped oats serve as a source of readily available energy. The processing enhances the release of carbohydrates during digestion, making the starches more accessible to the horse’s digestive enzymes while preserving natural fiber.
