Curcumin Extract - Feed Ingredient
Curcumin extract is a concentrated form of curcumin, the primary bioactive compound found in the rhizome of the turmeric plant (Curcuma longa). It is responsible for turmeric’s distinctive yellow color and is widely studied for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Curcumin is typically extracted from dried turmeric root using solvents such as ethanol, and may be standardized to contain a specific percentage of curcuminoids.
In equine nutrition, curcumin extract is used as a botanical additive in feed and supplements. It is often included in formulations intended to support the body’s natural inflammatory response or oxidative balance. Because curcumin has low natural bioavailability, it is frequently paired with other substances—such as piperine (from black pepper) or formulated as a nanoparticle or liposomal preparation—to enhance absorption and efficacy in the gastrointestinal tract.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Curcumin Extract as an ingredient.
