D-Activated Animal Sterol - Feed Ingredient
D-Activated Animal Sterol is a feed-grade source of Vitamin D₃ (cholecalciferol) derived from animal origin. The “D-activated” designation refers to the chemical activation of the sterol compound through ultraviolet (UV) light to produce the bioactive form of Vitamin D.
In equine nutrition, D-Activated Animal Sterol is included in vitamin premixes or fortified feeds to provide Vitamin D₃, which is essential for calcium and phosphorus metabolism, bone development, and neuromuscular function. Horses typically synthesize Vitamin D through sunlight exposure, but supplementation may be necessary in animals with limited access to sunlight or when feeding stored forage with low vitamin D content.
D-Activated Animal Sterol is considered a highly bioavailable form of Vitamin D₃ and is safe for equine use when included within established dietary guidelines.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain D-Activated Animal Sterol as an ingredient.
