D-Activated Sterol - Feed Ingredient
D-Activated Sterol is a feed-grade source of vitamin D₃ (cholecalciferol). The “D-activated” designation refers to the chemical activation of the sterol compound through ultraviolet (UV) light to produce the bioactive form of Vitamin D. The UV activation process converts the sterol into its active vitamin D₃ form, which is then stabilized and standardized for use in animal nutrition. This ingredient provides a highly bioavailable source of vitamin D for species that may have limited sun exposure or need dietary supplementation.
In equine nutrition, D-Activated Sterol is used as a vitamin D₃ supplement to support calcium and phosphorus metabolism, which is essential for healthy bone development, muscle function, and immune response. Horses synthesize some vitamin D through sun exposure; however, those kept indoors, blanketed, or in regions with limited sunlight may benefit from dietary supplementation.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain D-Activated Sterol as an ingredient.
